Spiritual Timing
Consistently throughout scripture there are certain geographies associated with individual callings. Abraham was called to Canaan, Moses was called to Egypt, David was called to Israel, Jesus was called to the Jews and Paul was called to the Gentiles.
When we’re not in God’s will, it can be that we are displaced or “geographically challenged.” It often occurs that a geographic displacement will be concomitant with loss of time, opportunity and relationships. There is “our time” and then there is “God’s time.” God’s timing is called Karios, our timing is Chronos. Chronis is sequential, whereas Kairos is providential. God gave us the Holy Spirit to help us with our timing.
Jesus had a keen sense of God’s timing. These are some of the verses, most of which are found in the Gospel of John, that evidence pointing to the Kairos timing of Jesus and in other places.
1. John 7:6 Jesus said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always here.”
2. John 7:8 “You go up to the feast. I am not going up to this feast, for my time has not yet fully come.”
3. John 13:1 Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
4. John 7:30 So they were seeking to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.
5. John 2:4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.”
6. John 17:1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you.
7. John 8:20 These words he spoke in the treasury, as he taught in the temple; but no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.
8. Matthew 26:18 He said, “Go into the city to a certain man and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, My time is at hand. I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.’”
9. Ecclesiastes 3:1-15 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
10. Psalm 102:13 You will arise and have pity on Zion; it is the time to favor her; the appointed time has come.
11. Acts 1:7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.
So as we conclude 2017, let us ask God for His timing for the rest of the year and for 2018.
